Bob Dylan owns a home nearby, putting his parents up on visits in a nearby B&B.
Todd Rundgren, creator of the studio and Bearsville Records, also owned a home in the area. He now lives in California and no longer owns the studio. There was an estate sale held recently so the house is being sold.
Dylan manager, among others, Albert Grossman died in 1986 leaving a $14.58 Million dollar estate which included the "now famous for Jewelstock" Bearsville Theatre. Of course, other artists have played there as well. Such as Rundgren, Ray Charles, Merchant, Dave Mathews Band. All of which recorded here.
There are actually two recording studios in the area: The video annex studio and the Bearsville Records old studio.
Controversey has followed the Theatre since Grossman's demise in 1986. It is still technically owned by his estate and widow Sally Grossman but the works are being finalized to turn the venue over to the community. At the center of the longstanding issue, is whether operating funds will be included with the donation. Without them, it is like donating a well without water, say the taxpayers who may end up contributing.

The only Angel to get mauled was a bear named Fuzzy
- Part of the delay stemmed from a bitter lawsuit between Albert and Dylan over royalty and publishing disbursements, that was resolved in 1987, with Dylan paying $200,000 to the estate and Albert Grossman Management Company.
- The Grossman Foundation: "The primary purpose of the Grossman Foundation shall be to operate the theatre in Bearsville, NY in such a manner that it be utilized as fully as possible as a forum and stage for the performing arts."
- A committee is under development to decided on the final issue of taxpayers and funds.
