RAINN

RAINN, The Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network, is a non-profit organization located in Washington, D.C., which operates a free, confidential, 24-hour hotline in the U.S. for victims and survivors of sexual assault. The hotline is for anyone needing help, and since it is toll-free, nothing will appear the phone bill. Tori Amos established RAINN in 1994 with help from Atlantic Records.

Year-Long Program To Support RAINN:
The Press Conference


On December 4th, there was a press conference in New York held by CALVIN KLEIN with Tori Amos to announce "Unlock the Silence", a year-long program to support RAINN, The Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network. The R.A.I.N.N. Benefit Concert &
TV Special On Lifetime

Here are some details:

  • One night only. Thursday, January 23rd, 1997.
  • At The Theater At Madison Square Garden in New York City
  • Tickets are on sale NOW (They went on sale at 9:00AM December 9th). They are $45.
  • Tickets avaliable at the Garden Box Office, All Ticketmaster outlets and charge by phone. For info call 212-465-6741

Tori is scheduled to appear in concert on the cable channel Lifetime in January in the U.S. According to the press conference held in New York City and according to the Dec. 4th Variety, Spanky Pictures will produce a one-hour TV special to follow Lifetime's new program the Place on January 24th. The Place is on at 7:00PM and the one hour special with Tori that follows the Place starts at 9:00PM Eastern/Pacific. The show will feature a concert by Tori to benefit RAINN. It will feature highlights from the show the day before.


The Atlantic Web Site mentions that on Thursday, February 6th, Atlantic's Digital Arena will be teaming with Album Network to simulcast the RAINN benefit concert in its entirety , with a number of local radio stations. The Atlantic Site promises more details on this shortly! You will also be able to listen to 2 songs from the RAINN concert on the web using Realaudio 3.0 starting Thursday night, January 23rd at Midnight.

A Promo CD called Tori Amos Retrospective: The Benefit For RAINN, issued by Atlantic with 12 songs, which appear to be previously released material, except for Putting The Damage On (The Twilight Mix). This link takes you to the RAINN web site, where you can hear this new remix in its entirety using Realaudio! And no, I currently have no idea how Toriphiles can get this promo CD!

Silent All These Years will be rereleased to radio on either January 21st or 24th to promote RAINN. Jordan's post says the 24th, and Radio & Records magazine says January 21st. It has apparently also been released in the UK this month as well.

Tori will do promotional appearances on Rosie O'Donnell on January 24th and David Letterman on January 29th.
